It takes me forever to cook even one meal.
I just don’t have the energy to cook something healthy at the end of the day.
I never know what to make.

I talk to a lot of people about their struggles with finding the time and energy to make dinner every night. Most mention at least one of the problems listed above. But then I get this question:

How much is a personal chef?

A better question might be: How much does it cost to cook or eat out every night?

Hiring a personal chef isn’t free, of course, but break down the cost and you might be surprised to find it’s far more affordable than you thought.

The Normal Routine

Let’s consider what it takes to make 4 dinners per week for a family of four:

Groceries: $100
Once weekly meal planning, grocery shopping, and time putting food away: 2 hours
Nightly meal prep and kitchen cleanup: 1.5 hours

But you know that’s not the end of it. Then there are those grocery store runs you beg your significant other to make to grab missing ingredients. There’s the cost of the groceries you bought in duplicate (because you forgot you already had 3 cucumbers…again). There’s the cost of the leftovers you threw out because you didn’t eat them quickly enough.

Add it all up, and making meals becomes a part-time job! No wonder you’ve made such a habit of going out to eat. But that costs even more.

How Much Is a Personal Chef?

Now let’s compare that to hiring a personal chef for 4 dinners per week.

Groceries: $100
Meal planning, grocery shopping and time putting food away: 0 hours
Nightly meal prep and kitchen cleanup: 1 hour (or less), for heating meals and loading the dishwasher

That’s a savings of nearly 12 hours per week, not to mention fewer emergency grocery store trips and duplicate items!

What else could you do with those 12 hours?

Get some extra work done to make more money?
Spend more time with your spouse and kids?
Dedicate time to hobbies, exercise or travel?

Time, just like money, is a resource to be spent wisely. And if the time you spend isn’t contributing to your well-being or happiness, it may be time to reevaluate where you can ask for help. If you don’t like to cook or simply don’t have the time or energy to do it every day, you need a personal chef for support.
